Teachers are beginning to explore Ning as a potential replacement for their classroom web site and/or blog. Teachers can
- post assingments
- post handouts including PowerPoint presentations
- upload videos, photos and music
- create groups for special classroom interests
- receive and respond to questions from students
- begin discussion forums
- add widgets that extend the functionality of the Ning. A popular widget is one that displays a teacher's Delicious bookmarks.
- use the blog feature instead of another blog provider (one less place for students to have to go!)
Each member of the Ning has their own page or space where they include information about themselves as well as many of the same things teachers can do as liisted above.
The best way to learn about the structure of a classroom Ning is to explore one that has been used very successfuly this school year. Fremd teacher Nicole LaBeau has created a classroom Ning. You can visit her site at
http://my1englishclass.ning.com/ but will only be allowed to see the main page. You will need to use the following information to see the rest of her site. Nicole asks that you refrain from adding any comments, photos, etc.
