Day One - First Blog Entry
What are your Technology Fears?

One of my fears is that as we use more and more technology, students begin to lose how to interact face to face with people. A second fear involves getting students to use a wiki. After talking with Sam Serrano in the spring, I was excited about starting a wiki with my AP Biology classes next fall. Sam said that one of the toughest things is getting the kids to use it. She said that if she uses it, they will use it. I still feel like I will have to do this in addition to what I am currently doing. I need to get over that. I also fear that as I become more comfortable using a wiki or blog or whatever for department stuff, it still takes my colleagues or students feeling comfortable enough to use it.

What are your expectations for this class, and what do you really want to take back to your classrooms?
I really would like to set up a wiki and train my students to use it in the fall. Sam showed me how she uses it in place of her webpage. I need to find the time to set one up and figure out how I am going to use it. I am in the midst of rethinking how I want to run my class and bring more technology in. I think if I change my mindset and USE more technology, it will make this an easier process. I add a little bit of technology when I can. Last year I tried blogs and it worked great! This summer I have my future AP Biology students as members of two blogs to complete their summer assignments for class. Can I use blogs and wikis independently or can what I am having them do on the blogs be incorporated into a wiki?
